farewell Peter

Peter is the first staff from ACTS that I know and comfortable with at ACTS, the place I am doing my volunteering work now. He's a refugee from Myanmar and he's the coordinator at ACTS.

Finally, his application to go to a country where they accept refugees was approved and he's going to Tennessee on 2nd Nov. Malaysia DO NOT recognise refugees here and hence they are considered as illegal immigrants. The police and Rela staffs treat them badly and even abuses them! Want to hear true stories, just ask me.

He actually organised a dinner at Subang 2 weeks ago but I was busy with my China relatives so could not attend hence he organised another lunch at ACTS where it was more convenient for all the doctors and volunteers. He even made me promise that I'll appear when he called to invite me again LOL.

So I attended the lunch and I was all alone as the other volunteers are relatives of the founder of ACTS while other non-volunteers were his church friends. I didn't know anyone besides Peter and the ACTS staff which I am not very close to and seriously considered leaving as fast as I can. Thank goodness I kept myself busy by watching Astro's AXN while waiting for the other guests to arrive =P

After waiting for an hour and Peter introducing me to all the people, they gathered and said grace. Before that, Rosemary (the founder) gave a short speech on how much Peter had helped them (Peter teared and sobbed) and how thankful they are and how much we'll miss him then she asked him if he wants to say anything and

Peter- Ya, I want to thank you...(paused)...(eyes tearing)....
Rosemary- Peter, it's ok. We know you have mixed feelings. We know that you are happy to go but very sad to leave us.
Peter- Ya, my feelings (point to his heart) are mixed and so I want to....paused (teared)...I want to really thank you all...(paused)...thank y...(cried really sadly with sounds like hngh hngh....)

It was a really sad scene and most of the guests cried too. I teared a bit and was touched as how Peter really loves everyone here with all his heart and is really really sad to leave us. This scene is something I used to watch it in TV, not something I expect to experience it live. It was so touching.

Lunch was delicious. With satay, mihun, yam cake, mamak fried rice, ayamas chicken, pork, tomyam salad made by one of the staff. The food that they ordered are all from Peter's favourite restaurant =)

During lunch and after lunch, I was surprised that I could actually hold a conversation with complete strangers. First was with the head doctor of ACTS, then with another doctor who was 70 years old! and with another ACTS staff who is from Sabah. I actually talked to each stranger turn friend for one solid hour each. Amazing right?! I was shocked too!!

Mom picked me up after spending 4.5 hours there then we went to Daorae and was so satisfied with their service again. They never fail to serve you right and I love their ever-flowing side dishes =)

My last day in corporate world

I woke up this morning feeling so sad =(

Yesterday was my last day of work. After getting treated lunch on Tuesday and Wednesday, I got a small gift from the receptionist on Thurday. I got this
Then on Friday morning at 9am, Kak Dina presented this to me and it's from the whole department

I actually suspected it because on Thursday, she went around whispering with the staffs and one of the staff gave away. After a few exchange with Kak Dina and while Kak Dina was walking back to her own place, that staff suddenly said "my daughter said S-D is not so cold, some what like Genting" and hence I suspected that they'll give me some winter related stuff. More over during Tuesday's lunch, Kak Dina already asked me what I like, accessories or clothes etc LOL
I can't help smiling the whole day after that =)

The winter scarf is so cute and the things that the staffs wrote in the card are so nice. I've got that same huge lollipop from my DM ages ago and so happen Thursday was her birthday too!! Gosh, I miss them so much now.

On Thursday night, I actually prepared some small gifts for them and I slept at 2.30am after finishing everything!!! I was dead tired but it was so worth it!!
I prepared the cards
Then wrapped up the chocolatesand tadah~~
So during lunch, I put them on their respective tables while they were not around and after that, I got even more gifts which include
2 ducks from a staff which I rarely talk to a small purse from Lee Tenga wayang kulit thing from Indonesia and a box of nougat from my Assistant Manager
I've finished the nougat though =P
and a box I am so touched and felt so appreciated and a few staffs even keep asking me to prolong my contract and keep saying "janganlah pergi". One staff actually teared when I said my goodbye. Aawwhhh...
The staffs at 9th and 10th floor were so shocked that I was leaving so soon and they were so nice as they keep giving me hugs after shaking my hand =)

I am never good in saying goodbye and instead of feeling sad, I was actually really happy the whole day! When I returned my tag, the HR staff also commented "wah, so happy leaving us ah?" LOL even her head department which I only said hi a few times also came out from her room and said loudly "where is that leng lui who is leaving us? Don't want to shake my hand ah?" Gosh, I felt so awkward because she acted like so close to me when I don't even know her name.

Oh ya, the CEO actually called me into his room and talked to me. Asked me why am I leaving them so fast when I'm continuing my studies next April etc. His PA/ secretary/ senior manager also asked me into her room and told me to keep in touch and if I need anything, she has family at UK that she can ask them to help. So sweet right??

When I was waiting for the lift, the CEO came and waited for it too and we actually had our second conversation in the lift LOL.

OK, I actually felt really really sad this morning hence I went to my email and spread my miss-yous to them and after that, felt so much better. I was even hyper in ballet class which starts at 7am!! Hahaha

Well, I thought corporate world is all about politics, gossips and back-stabbing. This working experience really changed my mind. Maybe because I'm just a temp staff but hey, they love me!!! =)

Goodbyes

It's 7.20am and I'm in the office already and hence the chance to blog =P

Well, this is not news flash but for those who didn't know, this is my last week working in the corporate world. After this, I'll be a no-life student again.

So on Tuesday, I went to office early and on my way I bought a packet of nasi lemak biasa tambah kuah kari and it was so delicious!!!! I can't remember when was the last time I had a packet of steaming hot nasi lemak. Anyway, when I was finishing the mouth-watering breakfast, Kak Dina, the staff who sat behind me gave me a steaming hot red bean pau and I gobbled it up because the nasi lemak was so spicy that made me yearn for more.

Later in the afternoon, she and a few other staffs forced me out and treated me A&W as my farewell lunch!!! I was so touched because these ladies who are always on coco-collagen supplement are so nice to me.

Yesterday, another group of staff (Chinese this time) also did the same and since one of the staff is a vegetarian, I thought we'll have vegetarian food and hence joined them but we walked into a Japanese Restaurant instead!!! I only had RM10 on me and the meals there were RM18.80 and above!!!!

So I ordered the set lunch (which was the cheapest-RM18.80) and hoped that I can pay back them tomorrow but in the end, they said this lunch is on them. AAWwwhhh.....

Just moments ago, the receptionist (Kak Nor) just gave me a small bouquet of chocolates decorated like a flower with a teddy bear. The people here are so nice!!!! Double Aawwhh...

Tomorrow, I'm going to give them some chocolates (planned early this week) and with them showering me with so much love, makes my "some chocolate" looks so insignificant but hey, it's the sincerity that is important. Right?

Tonari no Totoro

Tonari no Totoro or also known as My Neighbour Totoro is a 1988 Japanese anume film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli. The film follows the two young daughters of a professor and their interactions with friendly wood spirits in postwar rural Japan. This film won theAnimage Anime Grand Prix prize and the Mainichi Film Award for Best Film in 1988. [From wikipedia]
I was so bored that I found the movie here =)

Bye China Relatives

Yup, my dear China relatives are going home this afternoon.

Well, they are kinda like my grandfather's brother's sons and daughters and his grandchildren. So that is how we are all related. Anyway, will try to get some pictures from them then will post it up here.

I am now bored in my office because most of the staffs are at another floor attending a training so nothing to do besides reading my book. So till then =)

About splurging on books and China relatives

Woke up and went for ballet class lazily. Came home and went to 1 Utama because mom is meeting her friends so my sis and I went and watched
.
This movie is well, OK? Didn't have any expectation so just enjoyed it. But I'm kinda into Justin Long now =P

Next, went to Amcorp Mall's Bookxcess for
1.

2. book cover of Cat O' Nine Tales by Jeffrey Archer

3. book cover of The Matchbreaker by Chris Manby

4.book cover of Marrying for Money by Chris Manby

5.book cover of Do Not Disturb by Tilly Bagshawe

6.

7.A Good Hanging by Ian Rankin

8. The Scarlet Letter

Yup, and I spent RM133 on them and I got a 3 years membership card and a free book thong(Huh? It's like a book mark but made out of strings and ribbons)! Crazy right? I know. Impulse buying? But it's not really impulse since I actually sent an email and asked them to reserve the books for me. I'm such a bookacholic!!

After getting my books, we went to a Dato Liu's place. Apparently he is the Ti Ratana Welfare Society Kuala Lumpur's President/ Chairman. Wow right? His house is as big as Jacqueline's place (maybe smaller before her's underwent renovation) but Jacq's place is definitely bigger and nicer. His place was err, I don't know, I don't feel hommy. According to my mom, he's my cousin.

The left guy with the open hand is him.

Anyway, my main point of blogging is about my relatives from China. I met them on Thursday night for dinner and after that went to my uncle's place (where they're staying) for fruits (a cousin sells fruits). There was 7 of them here in Malaysia and and all are my, well, I'm confused, well, they're uncles and aunts and cousins and my cousin's children.

Anyway, that night I didn't get the chance to actually talk to all of them but I can tell you one thing. They definitely look like us, Malaysians. They did not look like those typical beady (sepet) eyes with pink cheeks and they speak hakka just like my mom's side. When one of the uncle knew that I can't speak Hakka, he was nice enough to speak to me in Mandarin (they call it bu3 tong1 hua4) and his Mandarin was a little difficult to understand. Either it's the intonation's problem or my Mandarin sucks.

So today, I had a nice chat with them and got to know the youngest among that 7 relatives- a 23 years old cousin's daughter. She's pretty and she just finished her degree in English so she could speak English albeit a little broken. Her Mandarin is VERY understandable!! I could speak to her fluently and well, we just felt like a family =)

Oh ya, before I forget, Datuk Liu has a huge family. He has 14 (including him) brothers and sisters!!!! 14 siblings!!! So by 7pm, most of that 14 siblings and their family arrived and hence we had like a HUGE family reunion!! Found another younger generation girl among that crowd and she's a Malay mix Chinese CBN form 4 girl. So my 23 years old China relative, this 16 years old "Chinlay", my 15 years old sis (who just smiled and listened and acted like her mouth has gold) and me chatting away with a lot of awkward and non awkward pauses in between.

I'm dead tired and I got to wrap my books so I'll call it a day now. Will continue soon and hopefully can get some pictures of (or from) them to put here.

Envy me? Go ask your parents if they can somehow contact your relatives at China =P

Family Tree Book

Do you or your family own a family tree book? Well, apparently my mother's side has. Last year, they traced back to China and had a small family reunion at China and my sister went too. I was, well, preparing for EOS or summative I think and hence stayed at Malaysia.

Anyway, according to my mother, each Liew boy in the family has that family tree book and it's their responsibilities to continue recording and keeping the family tree book "alive" so my uncle did his part by contacting the relatives at China.

Today, these relatives of mine from China will be coming to Malaysia and we're going to be their host. We as in my mother and her 7 siblings and families. We even had a few family meetings (my mother's side always have such meetings) and decided to bring them around Malaysia for a tour so we'll be having dinner with them on Thursday and Saturday when they come back from Ipoh and Melaka respectively.

What to expect? More Hakka and Chinaman I guess =P

PS: Blood Lies by Daniel Kalla is out of stock at Kinokuniya!! Should have bought it when it was available!!! Sob~~

10.10.10

I started off by watching an episode of House (again =P) and then went to temple for Puja. Maha Vihara was filled with couples registrating to be husband and wife and the relatives were wearing quite inappropriate mini skirts and micro dress at the temple. Can't they just use their pea brain and think before wearing those revealing clothes to a temple? Jeez. But the atmosphere was wonderful with lion dance and small kids dressed up as whatever they need to be.

I was in a dilemma whether to go uni to start studying and kick start my study mode or go to a nearby MPH to get my House Rules because MJ actually smsed me to inform me that it's out. Thanks MJ!! So when mum said she wants to go home after puja I asked her to drop me at KL Sentral so I'll take a train to uni. Lady luck smiled on me when suddenly mom asked if I really want to go uni to study and I was "err..I don't know..." so she drove us to Mid Valley and made my 10.10.10 a memorable one.

Since we were at MV and it was 10am, I decided to treat my mom a movie but instead we bought tickets for 2 movies.
We were deciding on
1. Charlie St. Cloud

2. Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame3. Wall streets: Money Never Sleeps 4. Dinner with Schmucks 5. Legend of the Fist : The Return of Chen Zhen6. The Switch 7. Alpha and Omega 8. The Joshua Tapes9. Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of GahooleIn the end we watched Wall Streets and Detective Dee back to back with 5 minutes in between for toilet break =)

It was nice and entertaining and I really enjoyed both movies but I really regret not watching the Joshua Tapes because one of the main actor is my friend who was at first my brother's friend but we kinda got closer when I was college so I am going to suport him later by watching it this week. GO WATCH TOO!!! SUPPORT LOCAL!!!

We didn't watch The Switch because this movie's review on The Star was not very good. For Alpha and Omega and Legend of the Guardians, we might watch it with my sister later since tomorrow is her last PMR paper. I rather read the Charlie St Cloud book than watch the movie. My mom is the one who wants to watch Legend of the Fist and Dinner for Schmucks is a stupid movie which I'll watch when I need a good laugh and hence that 2 choices.

MPH was having a huge sale yesterday!! MPH card members get 20% discount on every book besides those that are already having discount. Buy more than RM100, you can get those skill books with DVD (How to Play Guitar, Yoga etc) for RM10. Buy one book with original price and get another for 30% discount for non members etc!!! I got my
and I got this

for the 30% discount. I would love to get more but by the time I want to look for more, it was movie time.

So we spent almost 7 hours in Mid Valley and went home feeling so happy even though everything was on me besides her books.

I'm going to get my Blood Lies TODAY at Kinokuniya NO MATTER WHAT because MPH didn't have the book!!

PS: I'm kinda half peta now as in when I eat, I'll stick to non meat meal BUT when there's nothing but meat like Saturday's dinner at Daorae, I was forced to consume them but I am really trying to go vegetarian. Trying is better than nothing right??

Appreciated

I had a great day =)

I started off my day with an episode of House, did some puzzles in the car, going through the normal routine at office and suddenly my assistant manager appeared. She was supposed to be on leave for this whole week but she came back earlier.

While I was helping to wrap 30 boxes of presents for the reporters in 16th floor (there was a press conference about the change of ownership), the AM came and started pouring pine nuts, walnuts, butter almonds and plums from China on a piece of white paper (reminds me of sinseh) and tell me to enjoy it. It was so sudden and I am not used to her being so nice because she usually is very quiet and don't talk so much to me.

Anyway, had my lunch, an apple and finished the stuff she gave me while reading manga. Then I continued with my crossword puzzles while waiting for time to pass. At about 3ish, the AM came and silently passed me a box of nougats!! I looked at her and all she did was "shhh" LOL!!!

Walked to mom's office in 25 minutes time. Best record so far and continued my crossword puzzle to 7pm, felt like watching Moonlight Resonance so watched through my hand phone TV and I was so lucky because that was the conclusion episode!! Fell asleep at 8.30pm and finally mom finished her work at 10.30pm. While watching the TVB drama, had 2 pieces of chocolate chips cookie and a packet of meiji biscuits. Hence, that was my dinner.

Anyway, it has been a long time since I last felt so light on my feet =)

****************************

This office's staffs are like food distributor. Anyone with food, they'll go distributing it among us. Previously, someone bought some fritters and started walking to each table and go "try try, it's nice." Then there was fried pineapple from Indonesia, chocolate muffin, fried lotus seed from Vietnam, a lot of kuih raya etc. Every time, there is always food to share and it feels nice. Feel like home =)

****************************

The other time, a staff who I replaced was leaving the next day and the whole team had lunch together. They even invited me who was there for a week and I ate for FREE!!

There was extra Hari Raya chocolate biscuits (the one with almond in it) and one of the staff gave it to me for helping her sorting the insurance certs. Hehehe

***************************

16 more days to go and I'm free!!! I think I'm gonna miss this place. I have been here for the past 4 months mind you!! =)

555

This is my 555th post. Whee~~~

Last week, I mopped and refused to talk to anyone even my family. Don't ask me why, I just didn't feel like talking and was feeling rather cranky so to avoid saying anything hurtful, I kept my mouth shut and still got an earful from my parents. Whatever~~

On Sunday, I was recovering from my shut-up-week, started to talk a bit and the next thiing I know, I was having dinner (steamboat) with mom at Desapark City and then I had New Zealand Ice Cream!! I wanted to order the 3 scoops BUT I toned down a bit and ordered the 2 scoops. So mom and I had 2 scoops of ice cream each.

She ordered rum and raisin and butterscotch. All yellowish white.

I ordered rocky road (chocolate ice cream + mashmallow + crumbs of almond) and Chocolate fudge. Double chocolate =)

Monday, I woke up feeling a bit off. I had the feeling of coming down with fever and my knee joints hurt badly maybe due to the fact that I slept crossed-legged. Don't ask me why, I didn't even realised I fell asleep.

Later in the evening, I was walking to mom's office whien suddenly she called and asked me to go home myself. It was vital that I reach home before 8.20pm because I got to replace my ballet teacher's class so I walked into the train and surprisingly it was barable besides having difficulty breathing due to my going-to-be-blocked nose.

All in all, I had a very "normal" day. I can't wait for end of Oct!!!

PS: Because I forgot to tag in some morning (the door was open most of the time, so it was convenient to forget to tag in!!) so my salary was being deducted. Cool right? Shit not.

PPS: I'm hooked with playing puzzles.
